Shorebird Carvings by Bob Berry |
This bird performed in competition better than any I've ever done. I began my shorebird carvings for the 2008 show circuit during the wildfires of 2007. The fires burned close and power outages were sporadic during a 2-3 week period. I drew several patterns, focusing on exotics. My Eurasian Dotterel was carved at this time. Most of the carving was with knives and chisels because of the power outages. Painting occurred about a month later. ***I fully believe this bird could have won Best of Show at the ODCCA in Ohio, but was held out because of it being a purchase award. It very likely could have done the same at the 2008 PFDA, but at that time it was being displayed at the Ward Museum having won top honors in Ocean City, MD Sold 2008: Purchase Award
