This Japanese Koi fish was carved as an entry for the Miscellaneous Freshwater Fish category after I had completed carving my entries for all of the other categories.
It is truly a departure from what was then my standard, the species as well as the design composition. The Koi was my first carving where I applied principles of bonsai as is shown in the habitat and base design.
My efforts won Best of Show and this carving has earned a respectable place in my show cabinet
