Oystercatcher (2008)


This carving was inspired by a weekend trip to Cambria, CA where we watched dozens of these birds feeding on the rocks in the surf zone. Not having striking plumage, I chose to open the mouth on this carving. I felt it was pushing the rules a bit, but it was never disqualified in any of the five competitions in which it was entered. The base is smooth, faux painted as rocks
